Black Hawk Hotel – Cedar Falls
Open since the early 1850s,the hotel is the oldest continuously-running hotel site west of the Mississippi.
Room accommodations range from Standard to Junior and Full Multi Room Suites.

Cedar Falls Ice House Museum Opened in 1921 it is the original home of the Cedar Falls Ice and Fuel Company. It is the only museum in US that combines an original ice house with a collection of ice harvesting artifacts & archives

2008 flood waters reached 12 inches higher than any other time
Raised the museum floor to prevent future flooding issues
June 2012 - Administration transferred to the Rod Library & space was remodeled
2015 – Grand reopening of new museum dedicated to education & research
Fall 2018 – Opening of new Culture Lab & new Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education & Culture

UNI Museum & Conservator Lab
This tusk artifact has been the subject of multiple areas of study including Anthropology, Art, Chemistry, History, Museum Studies, & Preservation
Students learn & perform preservation practices using various artifacts in the Conservator Lab
Fall 2019 - UNI starts a Certification program in Museum Studies

First Year: Storage room was expanded & overhead pipe issues resolved
Second Year: 200 Artworks that were in worst condition evaluated by conservator
Third Year: 50 works in the worst condition sent to be restored

What about the planned visit to the Spirit Lake area this year?
We are now planning to have our 2021 S.O.S. Conference at this year’s venue, Spirit Lake, Iowa. We will be sending out more information about this event soon.
